Media Monday-SHARK!

I had every intention of making this Media Monday about books. I love books. One of my fondest memories of childhood is going to the library with my mom when I was young. She loved to read. Summer always reminds me of the one I spent reading every Nancy Drew book.

However, one of our favorite families has been thrown into the reality television limelight.

This is the Snow Family. Actually, we only know Warren and Priscilla. (So, I am sure their children are going to wonder why their photograph is on my blog) Their son, Alex Snow (I did meet him once), works for OCEARCH. Alex is a Texas A&M graduate and while in school, did an internship on the MV OCEARCH.  This turned into a job for him, and he is traveling the world to help tag sharks, work with scientist, and learn more about this predator. As we know, any disruption in the food chain effects us all. The sharks are just as important as the rest of us, and are being hunted unmercifully.

The OCEARCH Team began on the National Geographic Channel under the name Shark Men. You may still be able to find repeats of those episodes. The show is now being filmed and shown on the History Channel with the title of Shark Wranglers. The OCEARCH team was in South Africa for their first episode (and maybe all the episodes?) which means rough waters and rough politics, but that is kind of their everyday life, I fear.

Alex is the "newbie" on board, but he was on camera Sunday night (I am sure that episode will be repeated.)

We all hope to see more of him. He is out there living a unique life, seeing parts of the world that we can only share through the show.

Be sure and check it out and follow the MV OCEARCH crew Sunday nights at 9:00 C as they try to help make the world a better place.

  1. Cool! I always feel famous myself, when I know someone who is on tv or even makes the news :).
