Oh, the Inhumanity!

Yesterday the Main Street Arts Festival began in Fort Worth. This should have been a warning sign to North Texas that something bad would happen concerning the weather. The Main Street Arts Festival, MayFest, and the Byron Nelson: do not plan an outdoor activity. Today the winds were gusting up to 40-50 mph with wildfires west of us.

Barry and I went to the festival yesterday, which is the only day to go if you want to see anything. We actually were looking for art for the house. However, we were not bowled over by anything. We have a place on our stairway that needs a sculpture or something large. Scarlett can stand in it, and I may have to bronze her as she looks really cute there.

Of course, the first thing we passed was the Bass Hall and these sculptures. So there was no where to go but down.

The Southlake Arts Festival and the Main Street Arts Festival ended up being the same weekend this year due to NASCAR and any other major event scheduled in Tarrant County. Do you really think artsy people go to NASCAR? Anyway, I wonder how that affected which artist went to which festival.

We really didn't see much along the lines of what we were looking for except these two sculptures.

While they are nice, I am not in love with them. It may have to do with the fact that for as long as I have known him, Barry would usually walk up to something like these and say, "I believe this is an expression of man's inhumanity to man."  So what am I supposed to think when I see something like this?

After the Arts Festival, we went to Miles and Michelle's for dinner. First, though we all played soccer with Jax.

Here is the sad part of my post. I took, what I was hoping would be some really cute photos of Jax and Michelle playing together. However, they are all blurry. This must be an indication that I should read the manual.

If only it had been today, I could blame the wind.

This and That

1. I am going to visit these darling little girls soon.

2. I saved a turtle this morning.

3. Barry is still having foot problems. He is not wearing this contraption anymore, but maybe he should.

4. My lizard is still wild and free.

5. Scarlett told me yesterday that "leaves are the kitchen of the plant, because they make the food."

6. Barry does not like this art work above our bed. It is actually a cloth from Guatemala. What do you think?

7. I want this pegboard for my office.

8. That's all folks!

A House Full Of AHS Grads

A few of us from Ousley Junior High and Arlington High School got together for a weekend at Joy Foster DuBois' home in Corpus Christi last weekend.
Debbie and Karen
We looked at yearbooks and promised each other we hadn't changed a bit.

Debbie, Karen, Joy, Oneta, Me
We ate at Snoopy's on the water. The dophins swam by-just for us.

Eric's group (Joy's husband)  playing at the Irish Pub of Corpus
We  went to an authentic Irish Pub in Corpus.  There was great music and dancing.

Joy and her daughter, Katherine
Katherine was sweet enough to Irish dance for us. She used to compete and is very good. She didn't know the Irish Washerwoman though. ( She probably does under some more official name) When it comes to Irish dancing, that is the only one I used to know.

Of course, we went to the beach.

Joy still had her Bye, Bye Birdie album that the concert choir of Ousley Junior High recorded. I told Barry what a great recording it was and how excellent the singers were. He asked me how much we had to drink. Really, it was very, very good. Mrs. Taliferrio was an amazing junior high choir teacher. How she could put on those kind of productions with junior high kids is beyond me.

A fun weekend was had by all.

A Bus Full of Ladies

This past Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, I went on a ladies' golf trip to Louisiana. Besides a few mishaps with the bus, the trip went very smooth. That might seem like a misnomer, a bus full of women and a smooth trip. We didn't even have a working bathroom on the bus!

We boarded the bus just as the first rain whipped through the area in over a month. As I have mentioned in the previous post, Strawberry Shortcake was driving our bus. She just never gained my confidence. She did get us there and home though, so here's to you, Shortcake.

This was a particularly good time of year to go to Louisiana. The azaleas and dogwoods were in bloom and the humidity was low.

There was a chill in the air in the mornings,
but the days warmed up and the views were lovely.

When I got home, though, this is what I found in my own backyard

Eat your heart out Louisiana.

Homeward Bound

I have been on a ladies golf trip these past three days. We are leaving now and heading home. We have fifty ladies on a bus being driven by a young girl I have dubbed as Strawberry Shortcake. She is very sweet, but pretty helpless. The weather report said the winds would play havoc with eighteen wheelers and buses traveling on I-20 today. So, wish us safe travels. We are in Strawberry Shortcake's hands.

Out Like a Lamb?

You know the saying, March, In like a lion, Out like a lamb. Well March is out and the wind was like a lion today. That has nothing to do with this post, but I am still recovering from the wind.

I shouldn't have even been out in the wind. I was supposed to be at a yoga workshop, but earlier in the week, I pulled my hamstring. Forward bends were killing me and causing me to put too much pressure on my other leg. Walking and standing don't bother me too much, but trying to stand on one leg, balancing, and bending forward are not doable at the moment. I spent yesterday with an ice pack.

So why was I out in the wind, you might ask. We went to the Ranger game and watched them sweep the Red Sox.

But,  earlier this morning, Barry gathered up some balls for me,

and I took a picture of some azaleas beginning to bloom in my backyard.

The golf balls will come in handy as I am leaving on a ladies golf trip. I think if I can keep my feet planted and get someone to pick up my ball for me on the green, the hamstring will be fine. I'll send pictures.
